The TSA Asks, 'How Do You Spell That Again?'

May 18, 2009 at 9:16 AM | by JetSetCD | 1 Comment

Big Brother is watching you, and he is in league with the TSA to discover your real first name, or that middle name you've been hiding since middle school; we're talking to you Blandinas and Michael Adolfs out there.

On Friday, the TSA instituted a part of its "Secure Flight passenger vetting program," whereby people purchasing tickets must use the exact names found on their form of identification. Already the first commenter on Today in the Sky voices our thoughts on the effectiveness of this extra wall: "Yet any kid with MS Paint can continue to change the name on the boarding pass after an online checkin - go TSA!"

In fact, the policy hadn't even been in effect for 24 hours when we personally had a run-in with its flaws. While arranging a flight for a friend with an obscenely lengthy name, we were forced by the booking website to cut off one letter so that the name would fit on the boarding pass.

So will "Christophe" make it through security for his flight in a week? What about Britain's Prince Harry, who has a polo match in New York this month, but bears the full name of Prince Henry Charles Albert David Windsor? We'd like to see the length of that boarding pass.

What does the TSA think about Pet Airways?

What about those fancy show dogs? They have awesome names too like, "Ch Kan-Point's VJK Autumn Roses."
