· Berlin: If Warhol is bit too mainstream for you and Berlin is within a Eurostar's ride away, then head to this weekend's Gallery Weekend Berlin, when 38+ studios fling open their doors to the gawking, art-absorbing public, who hopefully include some amateur collectors. Since everything is for sale, expect free drinks and mini parties in the galleries as the art scene eventually floods out onto the Linienstrasse, Zimmerstrasse, Rudi-Dutschke-Strasse, and Potsdamer Strasse, inebriated with culture just as much as with schnapps. Download the official gallery listing and schedule here.
· Chicago: From museums in Paris to galleries in Berlin, and finally to the smaller stage at Art Chicago. During this 4-day event running from today through May 4 at the Merchandise Mart, modern and contemporary art, video and installations are exhibited and sold at a faster pace than in your typical white-washed boutique gallery. A $20 entrance charge keeps the stragglers out, but doesn't necessarily put you into a buying mood. If you're looking to contemplate the meaning of human installations or how many Liechtenstein-inspired pieces one artist can produce, this is your place. Full event details at their website.
· New York City: Forget about art for one second; who wants some ice cream? From 10 to 6pm tomorrow on Greenwich Street between Hubert and Chambers Street, the Tribeca Film Festival will host its Family Festival Street Fair. Mainly for the kiddies since face painting and people in movie character costumes are involved, we'd still love to go if only because Manhattan has so few street festivals. Check out the details behind the street fest and any other Family Film events here.
