Everyone Wants You To Go Australia But Are You Really Gonna Go?

Where: Australia
April 9, 2009 at 5:01 PM | by | Comments (9)

Move over South America! Australia is fast becoming the new hot destination. Or at least, it seems that way according to the Down Under Airfare War that keeps on raging.

Travelzoo has just let us know that the United Airlines and Delta have both matched V Australia's recent round-trip sale to Oz from Los Angeles starting at $649. The site recommends booking through their very own Fly.com (of course) but availability was found for departure dates Nov. 1 - Dec. 16 and returning between Nov. 3 - Dec. 21. Remember, that's Winter still Spring Down Under. Yet if you want to go before then V Australia has a flight from LA for only $530. And to think two years ago, we paid nearly $2,000 for our ticket on the not-as-cool Qantas. Ugh.

Low prices aside, we have to wonder who is really going to Australia these days? Do you plan on going soon? Or is it too far of a trek despite the budget fares? Will you just rent Australia instead?

Let us know how you really feel about visiting the wonderful world of Oz in comments below.

I'd Consider It...

I'd consider going to Australia, but the prices are still way too high when I want to go - which is over the Christmas and New Year's Break. I don't see prices any where what was quoted. Also, it is summer when it is our winter, so the article was wrong saying winter down under.

spring/sunner

i guess it's spring/summer since summer doesn't start til december. i've updated. thx!

i beat the crowd

and traveled all around australia a couple years ago for five weeks. loved it! sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and the cheesy travel australia commercials are right when they say it has something for everyone. i would love to get the chance to go again sometime soon, especially with the cheaper airfare.

we might be far away ...

... but it's really worth coming here. I mean, I'm a bit biased and all, but us Aussies really are very nice and there's tons to see :-)

ps. bad spelling week

i am having a horrible spelling week. some days you got it, some you don't. anyways, i meant spring/summer in my last comment subject. not spring/sunner.

I definitely go ...

I was in Australia in 1980. And I'm quite sure to go there again in near future. I'm from Germany and I love Australia. The livestyle in Sydney and Brisbane is unbeatable. See you, Down under.

Going next week

I went to Australia last year and fell in love with the country. When I saw air fairs last October at what I then thought was a rock-bottom price of US$720 r/t from LAX, I jumped on it. At $650, it's a steal, plus the OZ$ is low. GO! Oh, and as far as Qantas being not as cool as vAustralia, I'm on the A-380 both ways, which I think is way cooler.

Come to Sydney!

Wow those prices are amazing for what is one of the best times to visit Australia! The beaches will be hotting up, the beergardens will be pumping and even though it's only November, the Christmas Parties will have started meaning every night out in Sydney is a bumper night! Try aiming for November and the prices should still be reasonable. If you're going to stay for a while (which you should considering you made the effort to come so far!) check out some self contained apartments to save money.
