For some of the best brew in town check out the Motor City Brewing Works. It’s a little ways from Ford Field, but it’s worth the travel, as you’ll be rewarded with over ten beers on tap. It looks like the seasonal 120W 90 IPA will be around for the games, and we can only imagine that it’s a hop filled high gravity brew. Make sure to have one of their new brick oven pizzas to absorb all that extra alcohol-y goodness. If that's not your thing there's plenty of ales, lagers, and stouts all made in-house. Just remember the number for the taxi service.
For a quick bite to eat before the game head over to the diner known as the Elwood Bar & Grill. The diner has a great Art Deco look that makes it really standout downtown and it’s probably the closest place to Ford Field. According to them, they are so close to the action that you can hear the bounce of the ball. This may be a bad thing if you’re looking to escape the crowds for a bit, or trying to avoid the Michigan State fans that are hating on your Villanova T-shirt.
If Detroit is known for something other than cars, it’s hockey. The Red Wings will be on the ice Sunday afternoon if you need something to do before the basketball finals, so check them out at Hockeytown Cafe. The sports bar is one of the best in town thanks to loads of memorabilia and over twenty 63” TVs. Bud Light bottles will set you back $4 and if you’re riding your motorcycle, parking is free.
Don’t be too sad once the games are over and your pockets are empty, the 2010 Final Four in Indianapolis is only a year away. Maybe we’ll even win that ticket raffle thing and will be there next year. Eh, we’ll just go to Vegas instead.
