Eats in Tel Aviv: Dr Shakshuka's

Where: 4 Beit Eshel Street, Tel Aviv, Israel

Jaunted contributor Sedona recently spent a week in Tel Aviv, and happily ate her way through the city so she could share her picks with you.

After a morning walk through the extensive flea markets of Tel Aviv's port city, Jaffa, don't shortchange yourself with a standard falafel that's easily gettable at any nearby stand. Instead, head to the Doctor's--Dr. Shakshuka's that is.

Serving traditional (Kosher) Libyan and Moroccan cuisine, Dr. Shakshuka's is like stepping into a family's house for a meal. Long wooden tables line the indoor and outdoor eating areas and guests are encouraged fill them, mingle and try everything.

The specialty is shakshuka, a pan-fried casserole with poached eggs surrounded by a spicy tomato sauce. They've been serving the best in Tel Aviv for generations. But that's only the beginning, as you'll also get an assortment of veggies and potatoes in delicious stews (above), beans, sausages, rice, couscous, lamb patties, pita, dips and beyond....

Paired with fresh lemonade, it's a filling, spicy feast. Prices are really reasonable also, with most entrees topping out around $8-$9.

Finish off with the house-made sweet bread and a glass of hot tea overflowing with freshly plucked mint. You'll definitely want to linger into the late afternoon for some friendly conversation with Bino Gabso, the chef and owner, too.

    YUM!

I also discovered shakshouka in Jaffa (at a different restaurant), and fell in love. if you ask me, they should have this in every city on earth instead of falafel.
