They did include a little marketing gimmick, which at least makes us feel like we’re getting something for our $15. Passengers will be compensated if their luggage is not at the baggage claim within 25 minute after the flight arrives at the gate. If your bag isn’t there, you’ll get either $25 off a future flight or 2,500 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles.
Of course all the fancy frequent flyers will be immune to this charge, but us regular folks will be stuck paying this on both Alaska and Horizon Air flights. The second bag fee stays at $25, but the third bag fee drops to $50 from $100—gee, thanks. In their statement, the airline tries to rationalize the new fee by pretty much stating that all the other airlines are doing it—we don't think that makes it fine.
