The Pirate Bay facilitated the sharing of terabytes of music, movies and books, but the creators' defense team argued that since it didn't store any copyrighted material on its server, it could not be held responsible for what was being exchanged. The court apparently disagreed, ordering the men to serve a year in prison and pay a $3.6 million penalty.
This would have at least been an honorable mention on our Best Geek Trips to Take in 2009 list. While you're there, don't forget to visit the Vasa Museum to see the work of classical pirates. Complete your trippy day by staying at the Nordic Light Hotel, whose Made By Originals package through May 24 includes a full meal served on ice and your own lamp to take home.
