Spirit Tempts Us With Another Sale, But Is It Even Worth It?

April 17, 2009 at 9:41 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

Even though Tax Day has come and gone, the marketing staff over at Spirit Airlines filed an extension. That means that you can still fly from only $10.40 each way to a number of their destinations. However, there’s a catch—which isn’t surprising with this low cost carrier. You’ll need to sign up for their $9 fare club which will set you back about $40 for a year’s membership. Seems a little odd that we’re signing up for the $9 club just to get fares for $10.40.

If you’re not committed to a year of flying aboard Spirit, then fares for everyone else start at about $20 each way. There’s plenty of deals to be had this summer as well as many dates as soon as May. If you’re looking to head south of the states you can depart from Ft. Lauderdale to Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and even Peru. (Don't forget about the international taxes though.)

And then there's the infamous passenger usage fee. The bottom line here is that Spirit is offering up another clever sale, but you’re going to be nickel and dimed a little more than other carriers.

However, if we learned anything from our readers before, it’s that even a sweet deal may not be worth it. If you’ve got any recent tales from the skies aboard Spirit, let us know if this 1040 sale is something that we should pass on for now.
