We checked out what the peeps over at Flyertalk were thinking to get an update. Our recent trip to Hawaii was in coach, so the thoughts of complimentary Mai Tais before take-off sounds pretty enticing:
Pre-flight mai-tai's offered - several rounds if you were so inclined. One white and one red wine - nothing spectacular but decent. FAs came through 3-4 times with bev cart (upstairs anyway) - but would also walk through and refresh on occasion. Along with snack tray, wine and water set out and available for self-service at all times. FAs were always available and ready to serve at the large galley at top of stairs if you wanted something else. I didn't go thirsty.
This user also shares the in-flight menu, along with the mismatching of Delta and Northwest service items. Again, to us, anything better than using the in-flight magazine as a coaster is an upgrade:
Seats were nice, AVOD was great. Empower didn't function as it should - not sure why I was surprised ( It was the regular outlet-plug type, not the special adapter). It would power for a couple mins, then go out. Why can't they come up reliable power supplies on planes?
Cruise at 34k. Food was good. Main service - Pasta or short rib. Turkey sandwich served later (2nd service) was large - I passed on it though, but it looked good. Hot towels before each service. Ice cream with caramel, chocolate, nuts and whipped cream after first meal. Meals served on grey NWA meal tray - DL placemat placed on tray table prior to service. NWA napkins and silverware holders. Interestingly enough, the glasses did not have any logo (I was expecting the usual NWA logo on the glasses)
Not everyone was that enthused about the service, even with the final destination probably being a vacation in the Aloha State:
Bottom Line: It's domestic first class with sparkling wine. My seat cushion had about as much padding as a park bench. The FAs were nice, but not by any means attentive.
If you're looking for infinite umbrella drinks and a seat with "as much padding as a park bench," you can leave for a week starting this Saturday in first class for only $3,655.21. It's definitely a little pricey, but we're thinking it's the only way to fly on a 747 without your passport.
