Find Your Favorite Wahlberg Brother at the Boston International Film Festival

April 16, 2009 at 9:31 AM | by cmb | 1 Comment

Not to be left off the film festival circuit, Boston created their own international film festival six years ago. The fest actually has an impressive line-up this year including "What Doesn’t Kill You", a movie getting a lot of buzz despite the fact it was co-written by Donnie Wahlberg. Here’s a guide to attending this year’s festivities in Beantown.

Where to Stay:

Most of the films are being screened at the AMC/Loews Boston Commons, 175 Tremont St. The Lenox Hotel offers luxury accommodations starting at $245 a night, just a few blocks from the theater. You can even request an upgrade to a hypo-allergenic room for an additional $24.

Where to Eat:

The Intermission Tavern, 228 Tremont St, is also nearby AMC/Loews Boston Commons. It's known for great burgers and crab cakes that, most importantly, are cheap. You can build your own burger for $8.95 or order one of their signature burgers, like the Portobello Burger, grilled marinated portobello mushroom caps served on a bulkie roll and topped with pesto, mixed greens, roasted red peppers and boursin cheese, for 9.95.

What to See:

The festival’s most anticipated movies open and close the event this year. The fest opens on Friday, April 17th with two screenings. The critically acclaimed documentary, "What Would It Look Like?" will be followed by the drama "What Doesn’t Kill You", starring Mark Ruffalo, Ethan Hawke and Amanda Peet. Immediately following the screenings, the opening night gala will be held at the same location.

The Boston International Film Festival closes with a screening of "Nothing but the Truth", starring Kate Beckinsale and Matt Dillon, that will also be followed by a gala. Package tickets for either the opening screening and gala or closing night screening and gala are $45 each.

Why is it so hard to support Donnie Wahlberg...as if it's actually impossible for him to have done anything worthwhile. You talk about a movie that he was part of with such disgust: "a movie getting a lot of buzz despite the fact it was co-written by Donnie Wahlberg." How about trying to support someone who has really accomplished a lot in his life, and works hard to pay it forward. Have some class, leave your own personal feelings out of the mix, and give credit where credit is due.
