We’ve known that in-flight WiFi is awesome, but we really haven’t done any official speed testing on the connection. If we're going to enjoy it on all domestic destinations, we might as well know what we're going to pay for. Lucky for us, a member of FlyerTalk fills us in:
However, it doesn’t always seem to work out as promised. Another user lets us know about their failed attempt to watch funny YouTube videos during the flight:. . . I'm pretty impressed with the speed and connection consistency. I've speed tested on three flights in the last 2 weeks... 2 were running about 750 kpbs and one was up to 1.2 mbps. Streaming 360p on Hulu was no problem, but 480p took a bout 5 min to buffer and had a couple of drops/re-buffers. I honestly wish most hotel WiFi was as quick and (seemingly) reliable as the DL wifi.
Had two WiFi ships today- Ship 970 BUF-ATL and Ship 941 ATL-SRQ and Delta.com failed to load on both legs from the link on the start page. It would load so I could see the name in the title bar and then just crap out-very disappointing
We’ll keep an eye on Delta to see if they can deliver on their promise of getting everything completed by the first half of 2009. Honestly, they’ll really need to get cracking on this assignment, but if we continue to see progress we’ll cut them some slack. After all, the Jaunted corporate jet doesn't even have an in-flight magazine (and it doesn't exist).
