After the mandatory twelve hour rest period, all five teams are headed to Bangkok. Once there, they will take taxis to the boat yard in order to find the next clue. Since everyone ended up on the same flight, the field is wide open. Any small advantage can add up when the race is this tight. Once in Bangkok, racers head to the boat yard to find this leg's Roadblock.
ROADBLOCK
In this Roadblock, one team member must assemble a propeller and attach it to a
propeller shaft. Then, the team must take the boat with the new propeller, and
navigate the Bangkok canals to find Peninsula Pier to get the
next clue. It's a task that requires some mechanical finesse and a little patience.
Margie and Luke arrive first and Margie takes the challenge. She is impressively
handy, and finishes the task quickly. We heart this lady! There's nothing she can't
do. Jaime is next, and she gets it working in no time. They make the smart decision
to run back to the taxi to retrieve their gear. Victor, meanwhile, is having trouble
with all things mechanical. Eventually, he gets the shaft cranking, and he and Tammy
are good to go. Having seen Jaime and Cara go back for their gear, Tammy insists that
she and Victor follow suit. This turns out to be a smart move as Mark and Michael and
Kisha and Jen leave their packs and travel documents back at the dock – something
that will come back to haunt them.
DETOUR
In this week's Detour, teams must choose between Broken Teeth and
Broken Record. In Broken Teeth, teams must find the Street of Happy
Smiles and search through 50 sets of dentures to find five that fit the patients in
front of them. This could be squeamish, but fast. In Broken Record, teams must
ride in a party taxi on a five mile course while singing karaoke the entire time.
It's not a tough challenge, but there's no betting on Bangkok's traffic. Margie and
Luke decide to go the dentures route, and work on fitting the people in front of
them. With Margie's nursing background, she makes very quick work of the challenge.
The other four teams choose the karaoke party taxis – which made for some hilarious
television.
Now, both Kisha and Jen and Mark and Michael have realized that their packs and travel documents are back at the Roadblock. Mark and Michael decide to go back before completing the Detour. Kisha and Jen decide to just power through to the Pit Stop and then retrieve their items. Mark and Michael spend a considerable time arguing about going back for their packs, but finally decide to do it. However, it puts them in a cash deficit, and they have to use personal items to barter with their taxi drivers.
THE PIT STOP
This week it's Phya Thai
Palace. Margie and Luke secure the first place finish and win a week long
trip for two to the Intercontinental San Juan in Puerto Rico. Jaime and Cara come in second after some
solid racing and aggravated moments in taxis. Kisha and Jen arrive in third, but
cannot be checked in because their travel documents are back on the dock. Phil
dispatches them to retrieve the items, and then checks in Victor and Tammy as third
place. Mark and Michael arrive in fourth, but Phil slaps them with a hefty four hour
penalty for bartering their personal items, which is expressly forbidden in the Race
rules. D'oh! Kisha and Jen arrive in fourth, having collected their travel
documents and backpacks. Mark and Michael are checked in as last, but are not
eliminated.
NEXT WEEK
Since they were not eliminated, Mark and Michael must burn off three hours and ten
minutes of penalty time before getting started on the next leg. They will also have
to complete a Speed Bump, which is an extra task only they have to do. With
the odds stacked against them, will they be able to pull themselves back into the
Race? Also, next week, Jen and Luke get bitchy, and we learn some dirty words in sign
language!
