'Crazy Lady Freaking Out at Airport' Gets Apology from Cathay Pacific

Where: Hong Kong

Admit it: you've seen it, laughed at it and passed it along to friends too. The cell phone video of the Hong Kong Cathay Pacific passenger who, having just missed her flight, falls into shrieking hysterics at the gate, has spent the last few weeks taking YouTube by storm and making the viral video rounds. It has actually garnered enough attention, as internet tumbleweeds go, to warrant a formal apology to the passenger from Cathay Pacific.

Since the notorious video was shot by an airline employee, both Cathay and the lady passenger have lost a little bit of honor in the situation, although the passenger eventually made it on a later flight to Los Angeles with an upgrade for the trouble. Hong Kong being such a honking big airport, and with her flight being quite long-distance, you'd hope that passenger give themselves more than five minutes to reach the gate.

It's clear who holds the blame for the missed flight, but in the end both the passenger and Cathay win with publicity. We have to say that BusinessWeek sums up our feelings best: "had she pulled a stunt like this in the U.S. rather than Hong Kong she would have ended up in a choke hold."
