East End Festival Even Has Swishing
The East Festival in London kicks off tomorrow and runs through to Tuesday March 10, and there's no big prize for guessing it's held in the east end of the city. It's a huge event combining the forces of numerous cultural organizations across the city and coordinated by the mayor's office.
This year there must have been some disagreement over what themes to follow, so they picked three: Asia, digital art and navigation. Interesting combination! But it means that many of the art, music, theater, fashion, film or food events being held are somehow related to one of these areas.
We'd like to catch the hip-hop version of the Pied Piper; an exhibition about reinventing Bollywood intrigues us too; but the fashion event of Swishing is the one we're most curious about. You can drop off up to five items of clothing you no longer want, get a stamp per item, and an hour later, you can choose coats, hats, shoes or whatever other "swishers" have brought along--as many items as you have stamps. The East Festival is totally taking care of our financial crisis blues.
