It takes a serious stretch of imagination to think up anything more gruelingly frustrating than having to wait out a snow delay at Chicago's O'Hare Airport while resisting the temptation to purchase the Boingo wireless in the terminal. These days, the good old crossword puzzle is replaced by iphone checkers and thankfully, some airports are recognizing this and installing new technological entertainment outposts in their concourses.

Now instead of impulse buying a Tom Clancy paperback for your 45-minute flight, you have the option to chill in "Explore Chicago" lounges at O'Hare, equipped with new HP TouchSmart PCs and a plethora of Windy City-specific activities for passing the time.

You might get to check your email, but you can surf through "hundreds of current events, tours and attractions; multi-media content, including audio tours, slideshows, and video clips; comprehensive information on each of Chicago’s many distinct neighborhoods; and a virtual Visitor's Center with downloadable brochures, maps and resources for travelers."

This is not to mention the large-scale, 30’x10’ GigaPan camera's "ultra high-resolution panoramas" for viewing iconic Chicago locations in phenomenal detail, including the skyline, Millennium Park, and the interior of the Field Museum. That'll be a hit with the kids as well as frequent travelers like ourselves, who are always down for some free fiddling with new gadgets, although we still totally want to check our email.
