'Connect By Hertz': It's Like ZipCar But Without The Good Locations

March 31, 2009 at 11:26 AM | by | Comments (3)

With gas slowly creeping back up and unemployment at record levels, now could be a great time to dispose of your old clunker. You’ll laugh at your friends as they pay for gas, insurance, and repairs, while you enjoy the comfort and luxury of the city bus. We realize ditching your car isn’t practical for everyone, but if you do get rid of it, Hertz’s newest car sharing service may be of interest to you—especially if you can bypass its fees.

Connect by Hertz works a lot like Zipcar, but without all the good locations. So far they are in Manhattan—of course—as well as London and Paris. They just started late last year, so cut them some slack—it’s hard to play catch up when someone else has a strong grasp on the market. Like the competition, Hertz’s service will offer hourly rental cars any time you’d like as long as you pony up for the membership fee.

Depending on your level of commitment you’ll get a certain amount of free miles, and after that you’ll be paying a little more. The basic membership allows for 180 miles per day, which is perfect for swinging across town to pick up that old furniture your scored on Craigslist. Insurance and gas are included along with roadside assistance, so all you need to bring is your license. Even the GPS is included.

Toyota Camrys, MINIs, and of course, the Prius are currently the three offerings that you’ll enjoy from Hertz. Best of all, they are currently running a promotion where you can get your application fee and membership fee waived. You’ll save $75 by entering the promotional code 300001. You need to sign up by April 30, and if you test it out, please let us know what you think.

Zipcar Discount Promo Code still works

I just tried this, and it still works! http://carsharecoupon.greencommuter.info/
$25 Zipcar Promotional Code - Zipcar.com Coupon $25 Zipcar Discount I have heard good things about Connect by Hertz. As for Zipcar, my experience continues to be very good! I am updating this post with corrected new links. In any case, I have been using Zipcar.com for about 2 years and love it. Sometimes I have to walk to get to a car, but generally there is one within 2-3 blocks of my apartment. You can generally get a driving credit (usually $25, sometimes more) at a green commuter site. Try http://carsharecoupon.greencommuter.info/. They post zipcar coupon. The associated Zipcar promotional code gives you a discount when you sign up with Zipcar.com.
