Stuffing ourselves into a white leather booth in a party of eight this past weekend, we had to suppress a smirk at how the tides have turned for diners in New York; we're now on an even playing field with the hoighty-toighty restaurants.
This became even more apparent with a glance at the menu; pick any two items on the menu and a dessert, and it's only $24. In this case, one has the freedom to order two gourmet cheeseburgers, or two helpings of the hangar steak. Instead, we passed around dishes as varied as pancakes, sashimi, housemade gravlax, a goat cheese omelet, calamari, and the aforementioned hangar steak.
Thankfully, this was a slow brunch and so enough time passed in between courses for digestion, otherwise we would have had to abduct the molten chocolate cake dessert in a doggie bag. To keep this brunch recession-friendly, however, we recommend only taking advantage of it once as an ego-booster after a particularly rough week.
To take advantage of the "Spring Promotion" prix fixe brunch menu, Perry St serves it up from 11:30am to 3:30pm Saturdays and Sundays. As always in New York, be sure to secure reservations.
