Delta and Virgin Australia Make Love While Qantas Watches Wistfully

Where: Australia

The Down Under War of the Airlines continues. This morning Virgin Australia and Delta Airlines have announced an interline partnership that will enable travelers to "travel on a single ticket on the two airlines between Australia and the US." What we think this means (and correct us if we're wrong) is that you can fly Virgin from Oz to Los Angeles and then hop on a Delta flight from LA to anywhere else in the US. You get one ticket and your luggage is checked all the way through to your final destination.

This certainly makes Down Under travel a heck of a lot easier. But what we're a little confused about is why this partnership is necessary, considering that Delta begins its own Oz service in July. We did see that Delta's new route is still subject to Australian government approval, so we're wondering if this is not going to happen as planned? Of course, that's just us thinking aloud here. No need to ring the alarm.

Although, if you work at Qantas, which once faced little to no competition on the Oz to US route, you will want to sound that alarm and loudly, too. After announcing, $299 one-way flights from LA to New Zealand and Sydney, we can't wait to see what Qantas comes back with this time.

    If partnership or not...

...they will all fly to London once. And if you fly to heathrow get the chance and watch Terminal 5. If you fly there with British Airways you'll see T5 for sure. I like it! http://www.terminal5.ba.com/en/
