With UNC and Duke only like an hour or so away, this is pretty much the epicenter of college basketball. The Greensboro Coliseum is an older fellow, opening in 1959, but with over 20,000 inside the place can get pretty bumpin'. If you’re not too interested in a couple of the games check out Natty Greene’s—they make their own beer in downtown—unfortunately you need to drive since the coliseum is not downtown. If you want to throw down some cash rent The Loft upstairs, complete with pool tables, sofas, and your own private bar.
You’ll be watching the games here at the Rose Garden Arena, which was named as one of the ugliest buildings in the city. We don’t care what it looks like on the outside, since it will be all business inside. March darlings Gonzaga have already advanced to the second round here, and Washington—somewhat local—is playing here too. For after (or before) game drinks head over to the Horse Brass Pub. Not only do they have a lot of great local beers on tap, but they also have scotch eggs—just like mom used to make.
Boise features the most delicious sounding arena in all of America—the Taco Bell Arena—we can just taste the pain now. The place is kind of small, especially for the big dance, as it only holds about 12,000 fans for basketball. Smarty-pants kids from Cornell will look to upset Missouri today. If you need to make a run—away from the border—go to Flying Pie Pizzaria (that’s how they spell it in Idaho). There’s a few in the area, so you’ll probably stumble across one. With loads of different toppings, sauces, and even different crusts to choose from, you’ll find something that everyone likes.
Dayton, Ohio
If you have Louisville going all the way, then you will want to be tuned closely to what happens in Dayton. The games will be played on campus at the University, and with a small capacity of about 13,000 things will get loud—especially with Louisville only being a few hours away by car. There’s probably a lot of good places to get drunk on campus, but we aren’t too familiar with that scene. That’s why we pick Tank’s Bar And Grill, but go there after the games—they have a killer breakfast.
