Eat, Drink and Shop at Napa's Ma(i)sonry

We’ll be honest: normally we don’t like fancy concept names with strange punctuation in the middle of them, like Ma(i)sonry, but in this case we’ll forgive the misguided parentheses and focus on the positive.

That’s because there’s a lot of positivity at this new one-stop destination in the heart of Napa Valley. Opened last October, Ma(i)sonry's purpose is to create a “life aesthetic” by pairing artisan wines with art and furnishings in a historic setting.

Basically, that means that there’s a bunch of cool art and furniture to look at (and sit in) and think about purchasing while you sip your glass of artisanal wine from the tasting room. Or just wander around the 104-year-old stone building and its grounds, which are down the block from The French Laundry in Yountville.

Ma(i)sonry’s wine list features Blackbird Vineyards’ reds, but you can also sample glasses from the Brown Estate, Joel Gott Wines, Lail Vineyards, Pedras Wine Company, and Renteria Wines. Or, bring your picnic basket, and set up camp in the sculpture garden or at the 36-foot-long communal redwood table. The furnishings and art come from studios like Ron Mann, Alexandra von Furstenberg, Hudson Furniture, and Citizen, but you’ll also find vintage pieces from designers like Eames, Louis Vuitton and Bertoia.

A day of wine-tasting, shopping and eating in Napa can be an exhausting prospect, but now at least there is one place where you can do all three in a lovely setting.

Ma(i)sonry is open Sunday-Wednesday from 9am-6pm, and Thursday-Saturday from 9am-10pm, with plans to extend their hours for the summer. Wine tastings are available without an appointment, but reservations are recommended. Call (707) 944-0889 for more information.
