Disney Gets A Piece Of The American Idol Pie

March 13, 2009 at 11:16 AM | by kjb | 4 Comments

Things over at Mickey’s house have been less than stellar lately. They just had to show a bunch of management the door, and we’re thinking that the budget for the next great ride has already been cut. Luckily, The American Idol Experience snuck in under the wire, and recently welcomed the masses to its home in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Contestants will try out in the park, and if they’re good enough, will be promoted one of the several shows that run throughout the day. Once making to Disney’s version of Hollywood they’ll have to do their best to impress the judges who take on the personalities of the usual Idol crew—except we’re at Disney so even the meanest comment is going to be nice. They probably don’t want to make anyone cry on their vacation with their parents.

The winners of each show will compete against one another at a nightly finale. If you win here, and think you’re the next Kelly Clarkson—you will be bumped to the head of the line at a regional Idol tryout. However, you still have to get past Simon and company before hitting the big time. We hope really hope that daily winners actually get a good spot in the line, and don’t have to wait with the unwashed masses.

If you’re a true fan of the show this new attraction will probably hit the spot, but even casual fans will probably enjoy hearing some off-key karaoke while taking a break in the air conditioning. You have to be between 14 and 28 to tryout, so no over-the-hill fathers will get the chance to embarrass their kids—which is really unfortunate if you ask us.

To be totally honest, Disney is a little late to the game with this attraction. We’re only half watching the show this season, the new judge is odd, and we’re thinking that it's lost the charm. Nonetheless, we’re sure that there will be many overexcited tweens belting out some Hannah Montana hits—and we’ll likely do the same if we’re in the neighborhood.

    BOOOO!

I am too old by two years for this experience. That's crap! Can't I at least go somewhere and sing within this experience. Not that I would want to patronize such an ageist attraction.

    Correction

You have be between 16 and 28 to advance on with the Dream Ticket. So you can still try-out and you can still get voted best singer of the day but you can't move onto the Dream Ticket where you get to perform before a real AI representative. Ok, a little better.

    Oh Really?

I know the 14 and 15 year old kiddies need their parents to participate, but that's good to hear that everyone can play along.
