Would You Trust Lo's Tastebuds?

If every critic is a failed artist, would that make every food critic a failed eater? We've all been out to eat, and we all know what we like, but there must be something that sets someone who writes about food and dining for a living apart from the layperson. That hasn't stopped us -- see our recent series on recession restaurants -- and it apparently hasn't deterred "Laguna Beach" star turned "Hills" sidekick Lo Bosworth from airing her own opinions.

On "The Hills," Lo is often the receiving end of LC's explanation of her own dilemmas over brunch or dinner. But now she writes a column for PocketChangeLA, the bicoastal luxe list headed by the fictional Richard Nouveau, called "The High Life With Lo" reviewing new clubs, popular pizza places and, yes, places for ladies who lunch.

In her official bio Bosworth is described as "1/4 Writer + 1/4 Entertainer + 1/4 Being Fabulous + 1/4 Lady of Leisure" which is a great way to make us hate her. (Fellow contributors Lizzie Grubman and Tailor Made, maybe also deserving of our ire.) But we had a weakness for her on the shows that made her semi-famous, and her work for PocketChange, while inflected with the "Richie Rich" house style, makes her seem like she actually takes this job a little seriously.

Whether it's telling readers to fly coach to Vegas instead of first-class or scarf down scones at mid-afternoon tea, Lo's reviews are specific and free of Yelpish ranting. She could lay off the thesaurus -- "splendiferous"? Really? -- but hey, we all need to learn do that sometime.

We hope Lo will have to balance her new responsibilities with her busy life when "The Hills" returns for its fifth season April 6.

    One Quarter Fabulous?

    I agree! I think you'd only describe yourself as "1/4 fabulous" if you had nothing else credible to say about yourself...then again, the "1/4 writer" or "1/4 entertainer" really aren't credible when describing Lo either. She's probably scrambling to come up with something before The Hills ends for good.
