Live Long, Prosper, and Visit the Lido Deck

We confess we're not all that familiar with "Star Trek," the popular sci-fi franchise that gave us William Shatner and "Beam me up, Scotty!" But we can understand the impulse to get together with megafans and geek out together on vacation -- after all, you already know you have something in common with your fellow passengers.

We can't tell you whether the Enterprise was ever used as a pleasure boat, so "Star Trek" megafans will have to settle for Royal Caribbean's Star Trek Cruise of the Mexican Riviera.

Leaving from Los Angeles October 10, long after this summer's "LOST" creator J.J. Abrams' big-screen prequel, the Mariner of the Seas will spend seven nights flitting in and around Baja California, watching a fan miniseries called "Star Trek: Of Gods and Men" and playing a special Trekkie murder-mystery game.

And maybe you can tell you whether this cruise is actually with celebs or not. There will be no Shatner -- did Priceline fail him?! -- but we will get Marina Sirtis, Tim Russ and Garrett Wang. But if it were up to us, we'd be trying to get a photo with Alan Ruck, who before he explored space was beloved to our hearts as Cameron from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

And just a note to Trekkies looking to write "glowing" reviews about their Royal Caribbean experience on CruiseCritic.com: the internet is watching.
