SXSW Survival In Three Easy Steps

Whether you're catching some panels for work in the interactive segment, staying up all night to hear your favorite bands or hoping to give Jason Segel a hug at the premiere of "I Love You Man," Austin's South by Southwest can sure take the wind out of even the most ardent traveler. That's why we've boiled our SXSW tips down to three easy lessons -- plus, you only need three chords to make a good rock song.

Hydrate or die trying. The Porta-Pottis are scary but so are IVs. The local BBQ may be delicious, but it's not going to help you keep all that water in. And no, beer does not count towards your daily quota of water. Alternate drinks with water during the day; you can stop at night if you feel self-conscious.

Strap up. If you're a photographer, bring extra memory cards. If you're shooting video, bring batteries and chargers. If you're taking notes, stuff your skinny jeans with notebooks. This is war, people! And if you've promised to live-tweet, you'd better have a cell phone that can handle it.

Mind your feet. Chuck Taylors may be cool, but a friend of ours once compared them to the hipster version of foot-binding. If they don't work for you, that first 20-hour day waiting in line is going to be the last. Same goes for any outfits that chafe or don't breathe -- we're not saying pull on some CoolMax gear here, just bring clothing that's already broken in. Ladies, rock the skirts and dresses for breathable comfort and a chance to be mistaken for Zooey Deschanel.
