Krispy Kreme's (Heart Attack) Challenge Taking Place This Saturday

If you’re still recovering from your Super Bowl snack binge, but are looking to start a more healthy approach to life--we’ve got an idea for you. This Saturday, the Krispy Kreme Challenge takes place in Raleigh, North Carolina. It’s a combination race and eating contest, so you can practice your running form while slowly weaning yourself off the sweet treats.

Celebrating its sixth year in 2009, the race was started as a dare between North Carolina Statue University students. The basic premise of the challenge is to run two miles from the school’s campus to the local Krispy Kreme store, down a dozen donuts, and then run the two miles back to campus. That's a cool 2400 calories and 144 grams of fat to keep you going. Everyone is invited to participate, or try to, and this year the race is looking to have 5,000 competitors.

All proceeds from the race go to benefit the North Carolina Children’s Hospital, and you’re welcome to join the race as a supporter to take in the scene. Keeping the donuts down is not a specific requirement, but if you don’t, you’re really not being a team player. This year, a crew from ESPN will be on hand as well to get the hilarity on tape. So if you’re really interested, make sure to check out SportsCenter over the weekend.
