Skiing Is Just The Beginning At Big Sky

If you’re trying to fill up that US map on the back of the Winnebago with state stickers, you should head to Montana this winter. Besides getting to say you’ve been to Montana, there’s some pretty good skiing at the Big Sky Resort. The resort is only a 45-minute rental car disaster away from the Gallatin Airport in Bozeman. There’s daily service on most of the major airlines, and a couple of smaller ones as well, so you should be all set.

This is big time skiing, so it comes with a big time cost. Lift tickets start at $78 for adults, and even if you buy a three-day pass you’re only going to save $10. However, due to its location near the Moonlight Basin ski resort, you can buy a lift ticket that will grant you access to the largest interconnected ski trail system in the country. That’s 5,512 acres and 220 named runs full of ski injuries just waiting to happen, so we say it’s a deal!

If snowboarding is more your thing, they’ve got you covered. There’s even a full “superpipe” in case you’re yearning to get some training in for next year’s winter games. Too bad the Yellowstone Club went kaput; otherwise, this might be a decent place to do some out of your league business networking or celeb stalking.

Of course, there’s plenty of places to rent equipment and plenty of places to learn. Slope-side lodging options abound, so you can easily drink and ski without going near a car. Later this month, you can still even find some deals under $200 a night by all the action. You’ve got two months to get there, as they close for the season on April 12.
