Ryanair Might Charge You For Peeing In-Air

Could this contraption await you on your next Ryanair flight?

Has Michael O’Leary realized he’s gone too far? There we were thinking that by abolishing check in queues, Ryanair had gone just about as far as it could in its quest to be the most measly airline ever.

But then CEO Michael O’Leary went on TV this morning and announced that the airline was considering charging passengers to use the toilet on its planes. He told the BBC:

One thing we have looked at in the past and are looking at again is the possibility of maybe putting a coin slot on the toilet door so that people might actually have to spend a pound ($1.43) to spend a penny in future

So we were just making up our “no fee to pee” banners and getting ready to hop on the Stansted Express to go and picket their (soon to be non-existent) check-in counters, when we got a backtracking clarification email from a Ryanair spokesperson.

According to that person, Stephen McNamara:

Michael makes a lot of this stuff up as he goes along and while this has been discussed internally there are no immediate plans to introduce it. Passengers using train and bus stations are already accustomed to paying to use the toilet so why not on airplanes? Then again, maybe O’Leary was just taking the p*ss this morning”.

So there you have it – it’s not definite, but don’t be surprised if it happens. Forgive us if we don’t laugh at Mr McNamara’s weak puns. We're too busy keeping our legs crossed.

Oh come on

really

stay away

I try to avoid Ryanair bogs anyway, they are invariably more skanky than you'd expect on a 2hr flight. I once saw an Easyjet flight attendant putting ground coffee in the bog to freshen it up - that was really nice.

I'm going to start calling every bathroom a "bog" now. Thank you. (Really.)

pee fee

will the pee fee also include soap and water for washing hands?
