Hard Rock Park Plans An Encore For 2009

Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach just won’t die, and that’s a good thing, since we’re still kind of bummed out that we missed it last summer. We last reported that the place was filing for bankruptcy, but it’s coming back—slowly but surely. The park recently went up for auction and was snatched up for a cool $25 million. The creditors wanted a little more for the park—like $10 million more—but they were happy to settle for a slightly lower price tag than getting no cash at all.

The new management is looking to streamline things, and are going to try their best to get the park up and running by early this summer under the Hard Rock brand. There are plans to cut daily admission rates from $50 to $40, and to slash the annual pass rate in half. These are pretty good ideas, although it doesn’t take a genius to realize this is a necessity in today’s economy.

Best of all the park is looking to hire back some of the 750 employees that were cut last year. They’re hoping to get at least 750,000 people through the gates this summer, which some feel is a much more realistic goal than the three million that were projected for 2008. If all goes well, we’ll be hopefully rocking out by Memorial Day.
