Maine Opens Topless Coffee Shop; Hopefully With Frost Bite Insurance

America still clings to its Puritanical roots when it comes to individuals and their...um... birthday suits. While the French Riviera has their well-known topless beaches and Brazil loves the thong (on women and men), America can't really handle the sight of human flesh unless it's in the privacy of our own homes or in a place where money is exchanged like a strip joint. (Ah! Our the joys of our capitalist society!)

Now you can add "coffee shop" to the the list of places where Americans can witness topless action in action. Yes, where most of us are used to hearing the word "bottomless" when it comes to coffee promotions, a brand-new java joint is advertising "topless" and it's got nothing to do with coffee.

Yesterday, The Grand View Topless Coffee Shop located in Vassalboro, Maine, held its grand opening. Only adults over the age of 18 are allowed to enter and be served by topless bare-istas. There's no cameras, no cash and most importantly, no touching.

Yet this is still a serious coffee shop. The hours are from 6am to 6pm and on the menu are "New England Coffee ($3 each) and donuts made from Chase Farm Bakery in Whitefield ($2 each)." And it's not just women going topless here. The Grand View employs a male waiter who serves you piping-hot coffee with (a hopefully just as hot) bare chest.

As our economy continues a Britney Spears-esque downward spiral, a topless coffee shop could be a welcome "perk" for many, especially in Maine which (admit it) could use a little excitement. The LL Bean outlet can only do so much.

But while we applaud this tiny hamlet's courage to go topless, we seriously hope the bare-istas are staying warm. Maine was hit with about two feet of snow yesterday, the day of Grandview's opening. Nipple warmers, anyone?

    Topless Coffee is nothin'

    Maine was once, perhaps still is, home to the topless Donut Shop. Props to Grand View for showing equality in their skin -- though imagine you drove all the way to Vassalboro and got your coffee served by the topless dude...
