Make A Pilgrimage To The Shrine Of Yoda

To fans of Star Wars, there’s no greater hero than George Lucas. Sure, he may have missed the mark with the most recent movies, but geeks everywhere hold him and his characters in high regard. That’s why we suggest trying to get a glimpse of the man and the myth at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco.

Located in The Presidio, the Lucas commercial headquarters really knows a good location, as it’s within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The center is named for a military hospital that was previously located there (not for our famous late night host.) The place is only a few years old and houses the offices of Industrial Light and Magic, LucasArts, as well as operations for Lucasfilm. This all adds up to one thing—George Lucas has just got to be around—and you’ll finally get to ask him what he was thinking with Jar Jar Binks.

Unfortunately, there are no tours open to the public. With so many rabid fans, we sort of understand why Lucas isn’t too eager to let costumed intruders into his inner workings. However, you can access the Yoda Fountain on the grounds of the facility. The green guy sits there just tempting you to go inside. According to some on Yelp, the security guard may even let you into the lobby of the building where you can check out Darth Vader. Just make sure you swing by Javva The Hut coffee shop on the way out, apparently it's a real place.

What a great thing to visit

Thanks for this entry! I followed the news of Lucasfilm's move to this new location with great interest back in late 2005, and would love to see it first-hand. I for one certainly don't think Lucas "missed the mark" with the prequels as you say, so I'm sure this trip would be greatly rewarding.
