Shaquille O'Neal Will Totally Tweet-Up With You

Celebs have invaded Twitter! Celebrities Twittering is a social media perfect storm. This elite sect of Twitterati is extremely thumbnail photogenic, well-trained in innovative ways of seeking attention/letting it all hang out, and most importantly for us travel geeks, constantly traveling the world. This week we're looking at who's Tweeting what from where. Any Celeb Twitterers we should follow? Let us know.

We have to admit. We were kind of surprised when we found out Shaquille O'Neal was Twittering. But one of the first tweets of his that we were clued in on had him saying "ur welcome" to Starwood Resorts for tricking him into speaking to some people. And we were hooked.

But it gets better because Shaq is actively reaching out for Tweet-ups. In case, you didn't know Tweet-ups (or "tweetups") are those weird meet-ups that are initiated through Twitter. It's kinda like the new version of meeting someone in a chatting room and then arranging a real-life meeting at the mall. But hopefully not as dangerous. Some travelers tweetup at the airports or music festivals and we're guessin, hostels and hotels for late night fun.

Take this case of newbie Twitterer Jesse Bearden who with a friend followed Shaq to a diner in Arizona after they read on his Shaq's Twitter feed that he was eating there. Here's how it all went down.

"You go talk to him" I said, while tugging nervously on my dress. "No, you go talk to him" Sean replied while flipping his hair.

But Jesse and his friend Sean didn't need to go talk to him. Because Shaq began to Twitter from his phone.

I feel twitterers around me, r there any twitterers in 5 n diner wit me, say somethin

Sean and Jesse finally found the right frizz-ease for their curly do and approached Shaq for a picture. He obliged and was actually very curious about what types of phones they had. Shaq is obsessed with mobile phones. Still, while he's not as great of a Twitterer as our boy Lance Armstrong, we like it that Shaq is accessible.

So the lesson learned here is that if you follow Shaq on Twitter you can probably stalk follow him in real-life too.

If you're following The Real Shaq on Twitter, then follow Jaunted! Similarly, if you do Tweetups when traveling, let us know how it went.

shaq is da man

Oh yea I follow his Shaqness, after being told about last week by someone far more into the Twitter community than I will probably ever be. That tweet about his phone falling in the toilet made me actually laugh, which is a difficult feat for 180 characters or less. Tweetups are another story, however; I have not yet reached that level, if I ever do.

More Love For Shaq

I need to find out where he's going to be and plan a vacation around meeting him.

Is there any athlete cooler? I think not.

I will now sign up for twitter!

Great story - heading to Phoenix next month - I would definitely go to a tweetup, especially if he's buying!

Tina Fey

Tina Fey is on Twitter, and her posts were HILARIOUS - but then she stopped posting. I really think we should all follow her and badger her until she starts up again.

It wasn't really Tina

sorry Cantera, but she was interviewed and said she thought the Twitter feed was funny but she wasn't writing it! Maybe she didn't want to go to there.

NO Way!

No way! Jeez, I read so many of those and it seemed so, I dunno, so LIKE her. DUPED. Oh well.
