The Next Travel Danger: Slankets on A Plane?

The Slanket. Already a media darling of 2009, this blanket with sleeves has long been touted in the eccentric SkyMall magazine, a catalog of stuff you would never buy but reading it entertains you just before take-off.

The slanket is best for sick days on your couch when your heater is on the fritz yet you still want to have the mobility to reach for the remote, read a book or blow your nose. But we have this crazy suspicion that some people are going to start bringing their slankets on planes. If not slankets, then maybe Snuggies which have a little less blanket around them making it feasible for you to wear them out in public. (For the record, the Slanket came first in 1998.)

This is where you frequent travelers come in. If you see slankets on a plane, you must tell us. Photos are much appreciated too. We want to know what color slanket, if it was indeed a slanket or a snuggie, and if anyone bitched about the slanket creeping over into the seat space.

I AM NOT ASHAMED

Listen, I have a Slanket and it is one of my most prized possessions. I have had it since college, and there have been many long days at HotelChatter HQ where the Slanket has come to the rescue.

Actually, I never even THOUGHT about wearing it on a plane...but now that I think about it, I'm thinking it would be perfect for a JetBlue flight so I could play with the TV and eat snacks while in the Slanket's warm embrace. Or on a Midwest flight, I could enjoy cookies whilst wrapped in fleece goodness. International flights? Don't even get me started. Brilliant.

Here is a photo of me wearing a Slanket a couple weeks ago. Needless to say, I am going to be okay if the Jaunted paps catch me and my Slanket on a plane.

Mobile Photo Ready

Have a flight today and it is cold here in the Northeast, will keep my phone on extra long and at the ready just in case I see a slanket.

Thanks for recognizing the slanket...the original.  It doesn't get enough recognition.  I'd be curious to see a side by side comparison in a throwdown of some sort.  Great post, I'll have my camera with me!

Secret

Here's a secret that the global slanket industry doesn't want you to know: If you put on your bathrobe backwards, it's the same thing as a slanket. That said, if you put a slanket on backwards, you've got a robe. And the circle of life is complete.
