Airfare Sales For Those Who Couldn't Get Away for Prez Week

February 18, 2009 at 12:13 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

[UPDATE: The Virgin America 25 percent off code listed below is no longer valid. Only members of the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club who receive the email newsletter will receive a special code for this promotion. Sorry for the confusion.]

The truth is some of you probably didn't go away for Presidents Week because you cleverly suspected that travel costs would be jacked up during this time. So either you vacationed before Abe Lincoln's b-day or you're still waiting for the costs to come down a bit.

The good news is there are a few special sales going on for folks traveling in the U.S. There are even specials for folks who got laid-off (Well, kinda.) However, you have to make up your mind pretty quickly as some promotions are about to expire. First up, The Virgins:

1. Virgin Atlantic's Discounts for Virgin America: The Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has offered its (Flying Club only) members 25 percent off Virgin America flights. Use code [redacted] to book flights before April 1st. Currently, the two loyalty programs--Flying Club and Elevate--are separate entities which irks Virgin fans to no end but the email promo we received hinted at a partnership between the two in the future. "[T]his special offer is just the start of our growing relationship, so watch out for more to come in the future!" Hmmm....

2. The JetBlue Promise: Much like Flybe's refund policy for the laid-off, JetBlue has announced they will refund your fare if you lose your job. There are several things to be aware of (namely the refund processing time is about 30 days) so be sure to read all the program terms.

3. Southwest for South By Southwest SXSW: The SXSW Music Festival begins March 13th in Austin, Tex. and Southwest's "Yes, You Can" promotion is yielding such one-way fares as DAL-AUS for $69, SFO-AUS for $90, and DEN-AUS for $89. And you might get to test out Southwest's preliminary in-flight WiFi which is currently on planes with tail numbers 901 and 902.

4. United's One-way Fare Sale from Cali: This sale is good from now through April 1 but you have to book by tomorrow. Destinations include "sun and ski" locales like Orlando, Key West, Maui, Vail and Aspen. In-state flights on United are at about $47 one-way. From LA to Aspen it's $181. LA to Honolulu is steeper at $207.

5. Last Minute America Trips on American: American Airlines is offering domestic getaways from several cities for travel next weekend, departing either February 27th or 28th and returning March 2nd or 3rd. Our fave route--LAX to EWR--was $132 each way. SFO to JFK was even cheaper at $103 each way. But you must book by Feb. 20.
