This is no shabby bistro, though. The restaurant is all modern design, with high ceilings, sleek leather banquettes, huge mirrors and a bustling open kitchen that fronts the bar—you can eat there in a pinch, but I’d advise against it since you’ll feel like you’ve been spit-roasted yourself thanks to the heat emanating from the open grills.
The final thing that distinguishes Soberbia 22 is its owner, Aldo, a gregarious man who makes the dining experience especially noteworthy with unfailing attention to each patron. He’ll squeeze you in without a reservation, walk you to your table, pick out your dinner for you, pour the wine himself, and make sure you stay on budget…as well as sharing a few choice stories from his own checkered past.
It might not be listed in the guidebooks yet, but Soberbia 22 is a great place to grab a piece of meat and down a glass of wine before setting off for the nearby bars and clubs of Palermo Viejo.
Soberbia 22 is open daily from noon-midnight. Reservations can be made online or by calling 011 54 11 4776 4549.
