According to Colin Daniels, chief exec of the chamber of commerce:
"What we want is for people to come here, drop someone off and move on. But this wasn’t always happening. With these ‘no kissing’ signs we are pointing out that we don’t want people doing that right in front of the station. If they want to say a longer goodbye, they can do that in the ‘kissing zone’.”
Fair enough, although it doesn’t really help the image of the reserved Englishman. But what we really want to know is, given that the sign is of man-on-woman kissing, does that mean gay couples can tongue merrily away? And what does the “Please Kiss Here” sign look like?
Incidentally, Mr Daniels says he got the idea from a station in Deerfield, Illinois. But there’s a music video that’s all the rage in Cuba (or was when we were there in December) that’s based on a very similar premise. We reckon he nicked it from there.
