Do We Wanna Meet The Real-Life Gossip Girls? (Duh.)

February 17, 2009 at 10:34 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

It's "Laguna Beach" with knee socks: Proving that someone's "Gossip Girl" withdrawal is worse than ours, Bravo announced last week that they are developing a reality series about New York City prep schoolers. That's right, it's "The Real Gossip Girls Of New York."

The producers of "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" and the first season of "Top Design" expect the as yet untitled show to premiere later this year on the channel best known for "Project Runway" and the "Real Housewives" series. Fashion, rich people and teenagers -- sounds like a match made in heaven.

Clearly we're excited, but hesitant to see what high school would agree to go anywhere near this proposal. If the show will mirror "Gossip Girl," they'll want to recreate those gossip-swappin' moments between classes, but they might have to do those off campus. Of course, in the case of "Laguna Beach," MTV didn't seek any permission to film at the high school; aside from graduation ceremonies, it was like those kids never even went to school. Then there's the matter of uniforms: Some prep schools still have them, but are they as awesomely retro as what the costume designers came up with for Constance Billard?
