UK's Eco-Czar Wants To Ration Air Travel to Two Trips a Year

We're all adults here. We understand that people of good will can have genuine disagreements about politics. And things can get pretty heated, especially when people argue about things like government power and environmentalism.

Take the UK. It's not for everybody. But the Brits seem pretty pleased with the nanny state they've built for themselves. The British Parliament has already slapped regulations on just about everything that makes life worth living.

Indoor smoking is impossible. Crippling alcoholism is monitored. There are even rumors that the state might start discouraging widespread, irresponsible sex. Fair enough. Vastly different countries for different folks, as our great-grandparents used to say.

But this is some bullshit right here:

Tourists may have flights abroad rationed under new plans being considered by the Government. Gordon Brown's green adviser Lord Adair Turner said a partial ban could be the only way to cut pollution. A Westminster source added: "People may be limited to just one or two return plane journeys a year." Lord Turner, who chairs the PM's climate change committee, told MPs: "We will have to constrain demand in an absolute sense, with people not allowed to make as many journeys as they could." His comments came as figures showed the Government spent ฃ18.5million on flights last year.

It seems like Turner's suggestion has met with something less than universal assent. That's good because there's only one way to cope with laws that won't let us satisfy our wanderlust--and not letting us fly away kind of screws that up.
