Where to Stay:
The Driskill is an Austin landmark, centrally located at 604 Brazos St, near the city’s best bars, shops and restaurants. This historic hotel defines larger-than-life Texas flair. It is known for Victorian details like the ornate crown moldings and one-of-a-kind beds. And unlike most hotels, they are known for their delicious breakfast offerings. The rooms are a bit pricey though. Right now, rates for their standard rooms are about $300.
Where to Eat:
When it comes to dinner in Austin, it doesn’t get much better than Wink. Though the menu is not cheap, it changes daily because everything is made with whatever fresh, local ingredients are available that day. Also known for their wine list, Wink adds and deletes bottles every few days to keep it fresh for returning customers. The atmosphere is casual and the service is always personable. Their current menu features Grass Fed NY Strip on Fingerling Potatoes with Braised Black Trumpet Mushrooms and Green Garlic for $30. For dessert, try the chocolate soup with milk chocolate-ginger mousse, yum.
What to See:
Most of the Camp Crystal Lake scenes were filmed at Bastrop Lake State Park and Old Settlers Park. Both are located about 15 minutes outside of Austin and feature the usual family recreational activities like volleyball, hiking trails and picnic areas. Old Settlers Park has several log cabins available for rent with a fascinating history. They were relocated to the park from Disney’s Frontier Land years ago and have found fame once again in "Friday the 13th".
