Admit it. Nothing gets you more pumped up than seeing a bunch of chicks on skates pummel the crap out of each other. Get your fix by taking in an all-girl roller derby match at the "Doll Factory" rink on Saturday, February 28th. One of L.A.’s best teams of Derby Dolls, the Varsity Brawlers, will be taking on the San Diego chapter, ominously known as The Swarm. The “bout,” as it’s called, will start at 7:45pm, but get there when the doors open at six so you can get a front-row seat to the blood-spilling, bone-crunching action.

You do have to be over 21 years of age but only people older than that will remember the infamous derby matches broadcast on Saturday morning television during their youth anyway. Tickets run about $20 on Brown Paper Tickets.

We won’t go into the rules except it's suffice to say that the more carnage and the more speed, the more points scored over the four 12-minute periods.

During half-time, try to come up with your own Derby Name: basically pick your favorite celebrity and then substitute vile-sounding adjectives. Some of my favorites include Feara Nightly, Demolicious and Gritty in Pink.

Can’t make it to the match? Try the fitness class run by Janis Choplin of the Fight Crew at the Doll Factory every Wednesday from 6:10-7:10pm. The “Punk Rope” class costs $10, is called a “calorie incinerator,” and doesn’t even require skates.

You can even indulge in your own lust for full-contact sports, high speeds and unfettered animosity by contacting the Derby Dolls for a tryout at: FreshMeat@Derbydolls.com.
