Where is Michael Phelps' Bong?

February 2, 2009 at 8:58 AM | by kjb | 2 Comments

In case you were too involved with your seven-layer dip last night and missed the news, the ubiquitous British tabloids caught Michael Phelps smoking the pot. Apparently he was rocking out at a house party at the University of South Carolina in November, when someone snapped a pic of him using a marijuana smoking device.

The school, located in Columbia, is famous for its mascot Cocky the Gamecock. It also has a great international business program, but we guess our hero was interested in a different kind of campus tour.

Phelpsie was purportedly visiting the school to attend a football game. The university is part of the SEC conference, arguably the best in college football, so the pregame parties are likely intense.

We’re pretty sure this is going to end the Rosetta Stone commercials, but if not, there’s probably going to be a bonus disc devoted to foreign terms for scoring drugs. No doubt his mother has never been more proud.

    Theory

I remember reading last year, post-Olympics, when everyone was agog at 'Stoner' Phelps's achievements, about his daily eating regime. Apparently he needs to get through something like 12,000 calories per day, and it doesn't really in matter in which form they come. Cheeseburgers, Doritos, tacos, whatever.

And I remember thinking: How does he generate that kind of appetite?

    Well, now we know.
