With a name like "Chicago French Market," the place better deliver on some Gallic goods. It definitely has the street cred; the market is run by the Bensidoun family, the largest market operator in Paris. But you can taste for yourself among stalls. At FliP Crepes, France native Antoine Elie puts a healthy spin on the traditional Parisian street food by using wheat flour, buckwheat and wheat germ.
Be sure to gorge on the French pastries at Vanille Patisserie. The stall is run by Dimitri Fayard, the World Pastry Champion of 2008, and his wife, Keli Fayard, a cake designer, and the couple craft handmade chocolates and candies, mousse cakes and French macarons. For your stinky French cheese fix, popular Chicago shop Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine is manning a booth there.
You won't only find French food on offer. The international eats include Vietnamese cuisine from Saigon Sisters, Korean fare from Bowl Square, Mexican food from Buen Apetito and Belgian fries with 20 different sauces at Frietkoten. Plus, there are stalls like Abbey Brown Soap Artisan peddling all-natural bath products, and Les Fleurs hawking fresh-cut flowers, potted plants and orchids. During December, the market will feature Etsy artisans selling holiday gifts and carolers to set the mood while you shop.
The market's open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Vendors' open times vary, but all are ready to go by 10 a.m.
