2009's Best Domestic Airline Is...

It's time for us to wrap up the best and the worst of travel in 2009 with the annual awards show we lovingly call The Jauntys. There's no better place to start than with the domestic airline we love most (and not because they occasionally advertise on here)...

Who is barely two years old and yet proving to be a travel game-changer over and over again? Well, it's Virgin America, the current darling LCC airline that used 2009 to become more than just the first airline with fleetwide in-flight WiFi. They also introduced a few new routes like to Boston, Orange County and Fort Lauderdale, just to keep things interesting.

VX quickly clinched the title of sexiest domestic airline—no doubt about that—but it's spent the last two-plus years building up a reputation for excellent service and attention to detail. Where else can you sip an absinthe cocktail or Patrón at 35,000 feet, take advantage of a "Hangover Clause" with your ticket, or watch the LiveMap channel despite what the TSA says? Virgin America might not have a network as large as fellow LCCer Jetblue, but it is a curated selection of airports, the better to serve the tech and entertainment sectors who get a big grin at the plane mood lightning and first class massage seats.

Sexy flight attendants in 2010, after the jump...

Here's hoping that another airline will step up in 2010 to break Virgin America's Jaunty-winning streak, but already they're looking strong for next year with a CW show about their hottie flight attendants and a new terminal for themselves at SFO. Virgin no more, we guess?
