2009's Most Improved Airline Is...

As we entered 2009, Southwest Airlines was pretty well known for one thing�well, two things if you count that whole Kyla Ebbert situation�cheap flights. However, throughout the year they really proved themselves beyond that of a discount carrier, and as a result, are the pick for the most improved airline.

They haven�t fully embraced the whole in-flight WiFi movement just yet, but at least they are making an effort. Let�s just give them the credit for what they�ve done so far, and hopefully 2010 will allow them a chance to really expand their offerings.

Southwest really came out of their shell this year. They aren�t shy about embracing social media, and they know all about blogs, Twitter, Facebook, and responding to complaints and praise in real time. There might be other airlines that are good at this too�we like you as well JetBlue�but Southwest really made the most improvement this year.

During 2008 the airline had a little bit of a trouble with their maintenance program, and everyone loved to talk about it. However, 2009 seemed trouble free for the most part. This allowed Southwest Airlines to focus all their attention on telling the whole wide world that they love bags. In case you�ve missed the constant commercials, both of your bags always fly free on any Southwest flight. We really appreciate that despite a spike in operating costs and that whole recession thing, that they stayed true to their word. Free drinks and peanuts are nice too.

If you don�t agree with any of the above, please just remember that Southwest Airlines was all about playing Guitar Hero against a rival airline, they put a hot chick one on of their planes, and they decided to expand into big markets like New York City and Boston. If that�s not enough for the 2009 award, then we don�t know what is!
