O'Hare Delays Make LaGuardia at Christmastime Look Like A Walk In The Park

We knew we'd encounter the holiday travel rush from our West Coast-to-East Coast flight last night, especially at our final destination, LaGuardia. But it ended up being the least eventful leg of our trip—because of an almost four-hour delay for our connecting flight in Chicago's O'Hare.

O'Hare is known for its frequent takeoff tardiness, but this time the culprit was the small storms in Chicago and East Coast, which delayed flights to New York and D.C., among other places. We saw at least one cancellation, but most flights were just delayed several hours.

It looks like it will only get worse in the next couple of days, and the influx of Christmas travelers won't help. There's a storm watch in effect for the Midwest this week. Chicago will likely see some light snow today and it'll turn into ice and sleet at night, which means more O'Hare delays may be ahead.

The upshot to our delay is that by the time we got to LaGuardia—around 12:30 a.m.—it was like a ghost town. The place was empty except for our fellow sleepy flight passengers hurrying to get their luggage. It was so peaceful only one fight broke out over luggage-bumping. Welcome to LaGuardia.
