Celebrating In The Skies: Virgin America Will Pour You Some Patron

Welcome to our new feature on the ways that the airlines are making you more comfy and less cranky this holiday travel season—"Celebrating In The Skies." Some airlines just want you to sit down and shut up, but these—thanks to extra treats and smiles—will show you how much they appreciate your flying with them.

Do you happen to be flying on Virgin America in the next few days? If so, be prepared to sit back with a free cocktail, free in-flight WiFi, and the chance to win tickets and an additional gift. You see, back when we chatted with CEO David Cush two weeks ago, he hinted that select flights during the peak holiday travel time might get some freebies, and he's made good on his word.

FREE BOOZE, after the jump.

If you're on one of eight special "Holiday Cheer" flights this week (Dec. 22 -26), you'll be surprised with an open bar, free food, free WiFi and a contest to see who can tweet or post to VA's Facebook page first from 35,000 ft up. If you're quick on the button, then you win the package pictured above—free roundtrip tickets and a little something special: an assortment of swag like wine-tasting tickets for two to Plumpjack wineries in Napa Valley, 'Yes to Carrots' amenity kits, Snowflake Blue Microphones, VeeV Açai Spirit and a complimentary one-night stay at Morgans Hotel Group’s luxury hotel, Clift, in San Francisco. Each flight will also pick a random eleVAte member on the plane to win the prize package as well.

This is the perfect time to be flying Virgin America too, since they just launched a new menu. Now, whether or not you're on the Holiday Cheer flights, you can order up a Dagwood Sandwich, Cubano Sandwich or an Achiote Chicken Hand Roll and then chase it with a glass of Patron tequila or one of a couple new California microbrews. These menu additions are all the result of flyer feedback, submitted in-flight thanks to the WiFi.

Now if only Virgin American would start flights to Chicago; that's all we really want for Christmas.
