Have A Hitchcock Holiday At A San Francisco Theater

It's 36-hours before Christmas, and we're readying ourselves for a full day of A Christmas Story airings, with a little Love Actually and It's a Wonderful Life sprinkled in-between. 'Tis the season for themed-movies—heck, even Die Hard is getting a lot of airtime—and as much as burrowing underneath a Snuggie with TiVo-ed shows sounds enticing, we'd much rather get out to avoid cabin fever.

San Francisco cinephiles and holiday movie lovers have plenty of reason to do so with two programs designed for those whose idea of cheer is cozying up to the big screen. The first is a very kid-friendly series titled "Christmas with Walt Disney." It runs from December 24-January 4 at The Walt Disney Museum, highlighting holiday miscellany like The Nutcracker Suite from Fantasia, Pluto's Christmas Tree, and "rarely seen home movies of Walt and his family."

The second program is geared toward those with a penchant for menace and an appreciation for Alfred Hitchcock's classic films. "Hitch for the Holidays" only runs through tomorrow, December 23rd, at our favorite place to see films in the country, The Castro Theater. Tonight, catch a double-feature of Strangers on a Train and The Man Who Knew Too Much, while tomorrow Psycho and Frenzy will be shown back-to-back. As "we all go a little mad sometimes," particularly during the holidays, the films are strangely seasonally-appropriate.

Tickets to "Christmas with Walt Disney" are $6 for children through the age of five, $8 for those aged 6-17, and $10 for adults. Tickets to the Hitchcock double-features can be purchased at the theater's box office one hour before the first show of the day, with adult tickets priced at $10. They accept cash only, so come prepared.

Now the only decision you have to make is whether to get warm and fuzzy with Pluto or scared and frenzied with the Hitch. Either way, Merry Christmas, movie lovers.

Movie listings now?

Really? Movie listings on Jaunted now?

Not everyone's cup of tea

Well, in one Jaunter's humble opinion, visiting The Castro is one of those quintessential San Francisco experiences that travelers may not immediately think of when visiting the city. I'd go for the organ player and awesome surroundings alone. (The Coit Tower and Alcatraz usually win out, though.) Understandable that not everyone's into it, though--just suggesting something that fellow cinephiles and/or families might find interesting.

Castro Theatre

The theatre is one of a kind. Cannot be missed. Imagine watching Milk there how much emotions are flowing in the crowd. The experience is truly unique.
