Celebrating In The Skies: Advent Wreaths And Gingerbread On Lufthansa

December 15, 2009 at 9:09 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Welcome to our new feature on the ways that the airlines are making you more comfy and less cranky this holiday travel season—"Celebrating In The Skies." Some airlines just want you to sit down and shut up, but these—thanks to extra treats and smiles—will show you how much they appreciate your flying with them.

Although it's been a tradition in Business and First Class for years on Lufthansa to serve roast goose with red cabbage and potato dumplings and herb crumble, this year's holiday menu and festivities will extend into coach and even into the terminals.

If you find yourself flying with Lufthansa and sadly missing out on the First Class fun because of a coach ticket, you'll at least get special Christmas cookies, and the cabin crew will be handing out around 61,000 truffle chocolates, 370,000 chocolate Santa Clauses, 270,000 snowmen, one million mini-gingerbreads and 580,000 Christmas pralines to passengers. But now for the good stuff in the front of the plane...

For the lucky few in First Class on Lufthansa flights, they get the enjoy specialties straight out of typical German Christmas markets. Think potato pancakes or "fritters with salmon rolls or apple sauce, Nuremberg bratwurst, cucumber potato salad, veal rissoles or Christmas Stollen, a traditional German fruitcake," and advent tea.

Business class will have it just as nice, but with less market focus. Instead, they'll find the classic roast goose dish as well as "a venison pyramid with chanterelles and Walldorf salad [and] Printen gingerbread mousse with a dusting of cinnamon and fig sauce." Add to this the decoration of advent wreaths and even more special treats in the upper class lounges, and we'd have to say that Lufthansa is the most spirited airline of all.

And no matter what class the children fly, they'll receive a Christmas present in the form of a small elk to cuddle as a Christmas toy. Awwww
