Don't You Dare Try To Slip Your Christmas Snow Globes By The TSA

December 11, 2009 at 5:19 PM | by Omri | 0 Comments

We do this story every few years, mostly because it's such a perfect metaphor for airport security. And while we've already been a little rough on the TSA this week for revealing the details of their screening protocols, that doesn't mean we can't also mock the stupid protocols themselves. And so without further ado, the more or less annual story about TSA's ban on holiday snow globes:

'Snow globes are not permitted to be carried through security checkpoints,' said Transportation Security Administration spokesman Dwayne Baird. The reason is that the globes contain liquids, and TSA rules say that only liquids, gels or aerosols in containers of 3 ounces or less are allowed through security in carry-on bags. The containers must fit into a quart-sized zip-top plastic bag, one bag per passenger, to limit the total volume of liquid and lessen the threat of someone using the contents as explosives.

They'll actually confiscate snow globes that are under 3 ounces too, telling you that you've violated some regulation or another. That's technically true in exactly zero ways, just like it's untrue that you're prohibited from taking pictures at security checkpoints. But TSA agents often tell passengers that a photo ban exists, just like they seize snow globes that are within regulations. Because it's easier that way.

Of course you always have the option of pressing your case. Except you need to get to your plane and they have the option of calling over the big men with guns. So this season, just like every season, thousands of families will duly hand over grandma's snow globe to get tossed into the TSA waste bins. Merry Christmas!

    People must just respect it

People must just respect it because it's for their own sake anyway. I guess the TSA are just doing their job to protect the people because as what the research says, the containers must fit into a quart-sized zip-top plastic bag to limit the total volume of liquid and lessen the threat of someone using the contents as explosives. Why not just respect and follow it to beware of anything bad that might happened. Research results only tells what is right just like the research result regarding online dating. Research has indicated that people concentrate more on what's "truly important" in times of recession. According to eHarmony.com, when people need debt relief, and are worried about money, they turn to love. The website reports that membership sales are up 20%, despite monthly fees of $ 60. There are many sites like for example the popular dating service Nerds At Heart. According to some specialist, dating releases brain chemicals that temporarily ease problems, so psychologically speaking dating is quite helpful to us.
