Does MTV's 'Jersey Shore' Show Make You Want To Vacation There?

December 11, 2009 at 9:32 AM | by JetSetCD | 3 Comments

Have you ever "gone down the shore?" Or, better yet, have you seen the new Mtv reality show, following a group of people as they go down the shore for a summer of debauchery and fist pumping on the Jersey Shore? You either love it or despise it with a passion, but it's without a doubt a perfect train wreck of a show, and last night aired the third episode, where the strangers finally mesh and accept their fate to work through the summer as employees at a cheap souvenir T-shirt shop on the boardwalk.

Although the action happens in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, a vacation destination about an hour away from New York City, the antics of the self-professed "guidos" and "guidettes" are rousing the anger in both Times Square (at MTV's HQ) and the heart of dirty Jerz. There are groups (ah hem New Jersey Tourist Board) arguing that the show is stereotyping everything from Italian Americans to New Jerseyans to Staten and Long Islanders (since most of the kids hail from there). But what's really being put on display here, what's really under the microscope, is the loneliness and confusion of the summers of youth.

Much like the Jersey Shore kids did, we grew up exposed to week-long Spring Break specials on Mtv, where the uber-tan dancers hoisted plastic cups while screaming for the host to play the next song in the Top Ten Countdown. The show "Jersey Shore" is just this same formula of partying, dancing and wearing little clothing while on vacation, but mixed with the aspects of a reality show. It's Real World on vacation, with five times the irresponsibility though about an equal amount of body shots.

So are you watching Jersey Shore? What do you think of the show? Does it make you want to go to the Jersey Shore at all? Let us know in the comments!

    Jersey Shore

Watching an infomercial with the non-deceased Billy Mays is more entertaining that wasting my time watching Jersey Shore.

    Here's the situation

As a native New Jerseyan, born and raised, none of my friends ever went to Seaside Heights and I doubt we would ever go there today.

That's because even in the late 80s/early 90s it was full of guidos. The only difference was they wore Z.Cavaricci jeans and Hypercolor t-shirts plus lots of gold chains. Essentially, they all kinda looked like Joey Buttafucco. They did not tan or lift weights and have a bazillion stupid tribal tattoos. In other words, they were bearable compared to this Jersey Shore crew.

BTW, none of these folks are actually from NJ.
