The Foursquare and FlyerTalk-like features are more evident the more your participate. If you're rating and contributing to an airport's offerings on GateGuru, then you enter and climb in a leaderboard, until you achieve "Captain" status of the airport. And of course this syncs with Facebook and Twitter so that you can gloat. All that helps keep our interest piqued and our participation coming, but what we're most impressed with is the detailed information—airport amenities include photos, what the places offer, and exactly where to find them, up to the nearest gate.
The difference between the paid and the free apps are how many airports you get to browse. The paid app gives you access to all the of features and the 85 airport directory, while the free app allows you to download only two airports but still lets you in on the leaderboard and other features. Plus, the blasted app is well-designed and easy to use. Gold star!
